Eating from the foods of the People of the Book prepared on their festival days

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 2882 )
Q 2: Is it permissible for a Muslim to eat from the foods prepared by the People of the Book or the polytheists on their festival days or to accept a gift from them
for the sake of their festival?

A 2: It is not permissible for a Muslim to eat from the foods prepared by the Jews, the Christians, or the polytheists for their festivals, nor is it permissible for a Muslim to accept a gift from them for the sake of their festival, because of the honor it confers upon them and the cooperation with them in displaying their rituals, promoting their religious innovations, and sharing in their joy on their festival days. This may lead to adopting their festivals as our own, or to exchanging invitations to eat or give gifts on our festivals and theirs at the very least. This is among the trials and religious innovations. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Whoever introduces into our matter something that does not belong to it is rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 17:1261
. It is also not permissible to send them anything as a gift for the sake of their festival. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
