Controlling the tongue when speaking at length
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 18289 )
Q: I am plagued by excessive talking with anyone I speak with. For example, I ask a person a question, and my question is trivial. Then I think about my previous question, and regret takes hold of me , and I say: How did this speech come out of me? And since I sometimes feel distress and get angry with my brothers and sisters,
because I love prayer and going to the mosque, and I read the Qur'an a lot, and I love to memorize it. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.
A : If what comes from you is due to speaking at length and talking too much and getting involved in idle talk, then you must refrain from that, and be polite with the etiquette of Islam in guarding the tongue and restraining it with the bridle of the pure Shari'ah. What will benefit you in this, if Allah wills, is looking into what the people of knowledge have written on the legal etiquettes. As for if that is due to illusions and whispers, then do not pay attention to them, for they are from Satan. We advise you to be moderate in speech and guard your tongue; so that you may be safe in your religion and your worldly life. And you must increase in the remembrance of Allah the Exalted, seeking forgiveness, and seeking refuge in Allah from Satan the accursed. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
