Fatwa number ( 11907 )
Q: I have commercial stores for selling watches, household vessels, and sanitary fixtures. In my stores, there are some men’s watches and glasses that are coated with gold, as well as household vessels and sanitary fixtures coated with real gold. We hope you will provide us with a detailed answer regarding the ruling on selling and using them, whether for men or women, and also in homes? May Allah preserve you, and peace be upon you and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
A: If the matter is as you described, it is not permissible to sell vessels and sanitary fixtures if they are coated with gold or silver for men and women; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 47:36
It is agreed upon that it is authentic, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): It is agreed upon that it is authentic, and the wording is from Muslim. The remaining uses are analogous to eating and drinking; due to the generality of the cause and meaning, and to block the means to harm. Likewise, watches and glasses coated with gold or silver are not permissible to sell to men. May Allah guide us and you, and assist everyone in all good. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
