Quaker Oats Soup
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 8802 )
Q: It is sold in the markets Quaker Oats soup, which is made from wheat and barley, and soup is made from it in Ramadan . I take five or six spoons of it and put it in a container with water for six or seven hours, then I put it on the fire for a quarter of an hour until it boils, then I leave it to cool, and then I drink it immediately. And I, O honorable Shaykh, drink it in this way because I suffer from a stomach ailment and weakness in
the body, and since it is nutritious and beneficial, I ask your Eminence whether drinking it in this way is forbidden, and whether it is considered among intoxicants? Please inform us, may Allah have mercy on you.
A: If your consumption of Quaker Oats soup, made from barley or wheat, is after soaking it in water for six or seven hours before it foams, there is no blame on you in that. But after it foams, it is not permissible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
