Q: A quarrel occurred between me and my wife, and in a fit of foolishness, I divorced her with one divorce without realizing it. This was on Friday, 13/6/1393 AH, and I took her back in the presence of two witnesses on the same day . I ask for your ruling.
A: If your divorce of her, as you mentioned, was one divorce, and it was not in exchange for compensation from her side, and it was not the last of three divorces, and you took her back as you mentioned with the testimony of two witnesses, then your taking her back is valid, and she remains with you with two divorces remaining. As for your claim of not realizing it, it has no effect until it is proven. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
