There is no expiation for one who did not observe the waiting period for her husband

Fatwa number ( 5932 )
Q: Indeedmy father passed away a long time ago, and my mother did not observe the mourning period for himfor this reason, I am requesting your esteemed opinion on this matter, and does my mother owe an expiation? Because she is still alive.
A: The waiting period after death is four months and ten days immediately after the death, or the delivery of the child if she is pregnant. As long as your mother did not observe the waiting period at the prescribed time, whether out of ignorance or for other reasons, there is no expiation on her. She should repent, seek forgiveness, and increase in the remembrance of Allah.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
