The first question of Fatwa No. ( 9153 )
Q1: If a man dies and he is the woman's paternal uncle or one of her closest relatives, meaning: those closest to her, she extends the mourning period for him. The Qur'an has clarified the mourning period as four months and ten days. Please inform us about this matter, as most people are immersed in this error. What are the things obligatory for the woman to do, and does she go to her closest neighbors? We, O Shaykh, are ignorant of some of these matters, and we have none but Allah, then our scholars, may Allah guide them to do good.

A1: The waiting period for a woman whose husband has died, not due to pregnancy, is four months and ten days, which is the duration of mourning for the husband. Allah the Exalted said:
And those who are taken in death among you and leave wives behind - they, [the wives, shall] wait four months and ten [days]وَالَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ مِنْكُمْ وَيَذَرُونَ أَزْوَاجًا يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنْفُسِهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا
[Al-Baqarah 2:234]
If the woman whose husband has died is pregnant, then the waiting period and mourning for her husband is until she gives birth, even if the period exceeds four months and ten days or is less than that. Allah the Exalted said:
And for those who are pregnant, their term is until they give birthوَأُولاتُ الأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ
[At-Talaq 65:4]
The woman in mourning must avoid all types of perfume, all types of adornment, and the like. She does not leave her house to visit her closest neighbors. As for what you mentioned about the mourning woman extending the mourning period beyond four months and ten days if the deceased is a close relative to her, that is not permissible; because he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is not permissible for a wife who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for anyone other than a deceased husband for more than three days, except for a husband, for four months and ten days.لا يحل لزوجة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر أن تحد على غير زوج ميت فوق ثلاث إلا على زوج أربعة أشهر وعشرًا

And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
