Fatwa No. ( 18581 )
Q: Ihave a sister who is fifty years old, and she has been deaf and mute since birth. It happened that she had a relationship with a man in her youth, and he had intercourse with her, so she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. The boy grew up, and when he entered school, they refused to accept him until he presented his father's ID card, so I added him to my ID card and enrolled him in school. He is now in the third year of secondary school, and he has memorized fifteen parts of the Book of Allah. I ask your eminence for the ruling on what happened, and whether I should keep him on my ID card, have him use my name, and let him inherit alongside my sons?
A: It is obligatory for you not to attribute the aforementioned child to yourself, and to remove him from your ID card. You should obtain an ID card for him in which he is attributed to a name that signifies worship of Allah, such as Abdullah, Abd al-Rahman, or the like. Likewise, the grandfather’s name should signify worship of Allah. After that, he is attributed to the town in which he was born. For example, he would be called Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Majid al-Taifi, or al-Madani, or al-Makki, or the like.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
