The third question of Fatwa No. ( 20062 )
Q3: What is the responsibility of the girl's guardian toward the man who proposed to marry his daughter ?
Volume 3: It is obligatory for the woman's guardian to choose for his ward a suitable and righteous man, one whose religion and trustworthiness he approves of; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 1967Da'if (Darussalam) narrated by Ibn Majah and al-Tirmidhi , who said: "A good, anomalous hadith." It is obligatory for the guardian to fear Allah in this matter, and to consider the interest of his ward rather than his own interest, for he is a trustee and is accountable for what Allah has entrusted to him, and that
he should not burden the prospective husband with what he cannot bear, by demanding a mahr (bridal gift) above what is customary. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
