Q: I am a woman married to a man with whom I have no blood relation. Is it permissible for me to uncover my face in front of his maternal grandfather—that is, my maternal uncle?—because I consider him a mahram, and my husband objects to this? Please issue a ruling on this.
Thank you.
A: The husband's grandfather, whether from the father's side or the mother's side, is considered a mahram for the wife of his son's son or his daughter's son; because of Allah's statement when He mentioned the mahrams:[An-Nur 24:31] , and the grandfather is considered a father from any side. And Allah knows best. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
