The deferred portion of a woman's mahr belongs to her heirs after her death

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 12258 )
Q2: My wife passed away, and I owed her a mahr of (1000) Somali shillings, which is equivalent to (15) Saudi riyals. I asked a shaykh from the shaykhs of
our country, and he issued a fatwa for me to give it to her mother. Is this fatwa valid? If it is not valid, what should I do?
A2: The mahr of the wife that she left behind after her death is part of the estate. The priority in the estate is to settle her debts, if any exist, then to execute her lawful bequest, and the remainder after that goes to the heirs according to the lawful distribution. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
