Q2: I am a man who married my daughter for one hundred and twenty thousand riyals (120,000). I gave the daughter ten thousand (10,000) of it, and I took the rest for myself. I performed Hajj with some of it for my father and my mother, I gave charity from it, and I contributed to the construction of a mosque. Is this Hajj, charity, and contribution from this money permissible or not?
A2: One should not exaggerate in bridal gifts; for that makes marriage difficult,
and burdensome for people. As for a father taking from his daughter's bridal gift, there is nothing wrong with it as long as it does not harm her and she does not need it. This is based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): And if a father takes from his child's wealth what does not harm the child and what the child does not need, he may dispose of what he took, and he may perform Hajj with it and give charity, because it is his property by virtue of his taking it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
