Q5: Is it obligatory for the wives of a man’s brothers to observe hijab in front of him if he suffers from a mild degree of intellectual disability? It is known that he is unable to live alone, so only his brothers’ families serve him.
A5: Intellectual disability does not permit a non-mahram woman to dispense with hijab in front of a non-mahram man, nor to be alone with him. Therefore, it is obligatory for the wives of the man mentioned to observe hijab in front of him, just as they do in front of other normal men. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
