The second question of Fatwa No. ( 9152 )
Q2: We have a brother in Allah in Egypt , whose father works as a butcher, and the work conditions require the free mixing of men and women in the house, especially among relatives
and business associates, and others. Our house consists of two floors: the first floor is for my father and my male brothers, and the second floor is for me, my veiled (face-veiled) wife, and praise be to Allah. None of these people, neither my brother nor anyone else, is visible to her. We know, praise be to Allah, the ruling on free mixing and the ruling on in-laws as well. However, the problem is my father and my mother, because if I prevent my wife from going down to the ground floor where my father, my mother, and my brothers also live, my father gets angry, and I am suffering from that. Knowing that I have asked my father to live with me on the second floor, but he refused, on the grounds that my eldest brother lives with him. So my question is: Is it permissible for me to live with them in this residence, which involves free mixing, or to associate with them in this state that we have described? We know the rights of the father and mother, even though if I left this house for another house where we obey Allah the Exalted and Majestic, my father would be extremely angry. Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A2: Strive with your father to explain to him the Islamic ruling on the hijab and other matters. If he responds, that is good; otherwise, separate from him and treat him with kindness. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
