The questioner : The listener Abu 'Abdullah says that he lives with his father and works in a neighboring city, commuting there daily. He sometimes says: "I am thinking of living near my workplace in order to attend the circles of knowledge in that town. I ask for your advice. May Allah reward you with good."
The Shaykh : If it is difficult for him to commute to his parents in their town, there is no blame on him if he takes up residence in the town where he works. However, if the parents are in need of his presence with them, it is obligatory for him to try to move to the town where the parents are. If Allah knows from his intention that he wants to relieve the parents' need by moving, then Allah will make the matter easy for him, as Allah the Exalted said:[At-Talaq 65:4] If this is not possible, let him propose to his parents that they move to the town where he works, so that their residence is with him. This way, he can fulfill his job and his duty to his parents without hardship. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you.
