Transporting a school student without a mahram
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16768 )
Q: I spent a period of about two months driving a woman alone in my private car to her school, in exchange for an agreed-upon amount. Please note that this woman’s husband is unable to move from his bed and is always in the hospital, and she has no adult children. After that, I told her: I want a mahram to be with you. She said to me: I have no mahram. So I told her: I am unable to continue driving you, and may Allah forgive me for the entire past period. I ask: what should I do regarding the past period? And regarding the amount taken from her, should I return it to her or what? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
A: It is forbidden in the Shari'ah for a woman to ride with a non-mahram; because of the great dangers and seclusion involved. Therefore, this act is forbidden for both of you, and each of you must repent, seek forgiveness, and not return to it. As for the wage you received for the past period, there is no blame on you in keeping it; because you were unaware that this act was forbidden.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
