The questioner : I am one of the sheepherders, and sometimes I do not have water available at the time of prayer. Is it permissible for me to perform tayammum, knowing that I relieve myself at certain times? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Yes, if you are a sheepherder and the time for prayer arrives and you do not have water, then Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has made tayammum permissible for you. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, regarding the special characteristics by which Allah distinguished him and his Ummah:
The earth has been made for me (and my followers) a place for praying and something with which to perform Tayammum (to purify oneself for prayer). Therefore, anyone (of my followers) can pray (anywhere) and at any time that the Salat (prayer) is due. وجعلت لي الأرض مسجدا وطهورا فأيما رجل أدركته الصلاة فليصل
Bulugh al-Maram 126
If the time for prayer catches you, pray. If you have water, purify yourself with it, and if you do not have water, purify yourself with dust, and that will suffice you.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
