The first question of Fatwa No. ( 10604 )
Q1: What is the ruling on prayer and fasting while traveling; is completing the prayer and fasting better, or is taking the prescribed dispensation better? Knowing that far distances are close in our present time and there is no difficulty in traveling.
A1: It is permissible for the traveler to break his fast in Ramadan and to shorten the four-rak'ah prayer, and this is better than fasting and completing the prayer; because of what is established from the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Ibn Hibban 6:48 , and his saying (peace be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1664Sahih (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
