The ruling on voluntary fasting while traveling if one is accustomed to fasting

His Eminence the Shaykh: A person is accustomed to fasting the white days (the 13th, 14th, and 15th of the lunar month), as well as Mondays and Thursdays, and he travels to his family on some of these days. Should he fast on these days? And the second part says: Some of my relatives and family know that I fast on these days, and I fear that I may fall into showing off (riya') in them. Should I abandon fasting on these days?
Voluntary fasting is like other voluntary acts: if a person wishes, he fasts, and if he wishes, he leaves it. However, it is not befitting for a person, when he performs an act, not to persist in it, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar: "O 'Abdullah, do not be like so-and-so, who used to stand in prayer at night and then abandoned standing in prayer at night".

So I say to the brother: Persist,And if you are traveling, look at what is easier for you: If it is easier for him to fast, he should fast, and if it is easier for him to break the fast, he should break it.
As for the fear of showing off, he should not worry about it; because Shaytan frightens a man when he sees him devoted to worship and says: "You are a hypocrite (mura'). So he should seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan and proceed with his work, and he should not be concerned with this.
