The first question of Fatwa number ( 5228 )
Q1: My husband (may Allah have mercy on him) has passed away, and I want, with Allah’s permission, to appoint someone to perform Hajj on his behalf this year. Is it permissible for the person performing Hajj on his behalf to take a fee (money) for his effort, in addition to the money he takes as compensation for transportation, food, and drink, or is it not? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with the best reward.
A1: It is permissible for the one appointed to perform Hajj on behalf of another to take the fee agreed upon for performing that Hajj, even if it is more than what he spends on transportation, food, and drink, and the like of what someone in his position needs to perform Hajj. It is prescribed for him to intend thereby to share in the good and to perform the acts of worship that Allah facilitates for him in the Noble Sanctuary , and that his intention not be for the money alone.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
