Fasting some days with their nights: Does it suffice for fasting the month?
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 3089 ):
Q4: Is it possible for a person to fast three days, night and day, in Ramadan, and have that count as thirty days?
A4: That is not permissible, and no scholar has held this view; because the night is not a place for fasting, and whoever does so is considered to be opposing the pure Shari'ah, committing what Allah has not legislated, and breaking his fast in Ramadan without an excuse. Also, because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has made it obligatory for the Muslim duty-bearers to fast the entire month of Ramadan, so fasting part of it does not suffice for the whole. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
