Possessing something that is not one's right and being unable to deliver its price to its owner

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 15917 )
Q4: What should one do if he possesses something that is not his right, and he is unable to deliver its price to its owner due to its use or its destruction, or because he does not know its owner? Is it permissible for him to give its price in charity, intending the reward for the owner of this thing?
A4: If a person has money belonging to someone else, and he does not know him and is unable to deliver it to him or his heirs by any means, he should give it in charity with the intention that the reward belongs to the owner. If the owner or someone representing his heirs comes and asks for it, he should pay it to them, and the reward of the charity belongs to the one who gave it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
