The eighth question of the fatwa number ( 7623 )
Q8: A Muslim man bought an alarm clock whose spring had been damaged. He replaced this spring with a new one, and the condition of the alarm clock became as it was, knowing that less than nine months had passed since he bought this alarm clock. He then offered it for sale at a price lower than its market price by five pounds, in consideration of his having used this alarm clock. Was it obligatory for him to inform the buyer that he had replaced this spring, or is it sufficient to reduce the price due to the use?
A8: It is obligatory to disclose the condition of the item being sold and not to conceal its defect, if the change mentioned is considered a defect by the experts in the field.
