The wedding feast upon the birth of a child

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa number ( 181 )
Q4: Is it permissible for a Muslim whose child is born to cook food and invite his Muslim brothers to it?
A4: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the 'aqiqah sacrifice for a male child as two sheep, and for a female child as one sheep. He also prescribed eating from it, giving it as gifts, and giving it in charity. Therefore, if a person whose child is born cooks food and invites some of his Muslim brothers to it, and includes some of the meat from the sacrifice with this food, there is nothing wrong with that; rather, it is a form of excellence in worship. As for what some people do of cooking food on the day of the child's birth, which they call the birthday celebration, and which is repeated according to the desire of the person whose child was born, or the desire of others, or the desire of the child when he grows up, this is not from the Shari'ah; rather, it is a religious innovation. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
