Fatwa number ( 1872 )
Q: I headed to the House on the seventh day and performed the rites of 'Umrah, then headed to Mina and we performed the five obligatory prayers there. After that, we headed to 'Arafah , and our car overturned and we were affected. A man who was with me, who was performing Hajj on behalf of my mother, died in the accident, and I returned from the scene of the accident on the night of the ninth of Dhu al-Hijjah. What is required of me?
A: It is obligatory for you, since you entered the state of ihram for Hajj, to continue in it until you complete all the rites, and not to leave it because of an accident from which Allah saved you. Such an incident is not an excuse for you to stop continuing in Hajj. Since you returned before standing at 'Arafah , circumambulating the House, and fulfilling what Allah has made obligatory upon you, you must seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him for what you committed. You must slaughter a head of sheep that is acceptable for the 'Id sacrifice inside Makkah at any time, distribute it to the poor, not eat from it, and not send any of it to a wealthy relative. You must perform Hajj the following year, if Allah wills. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
