Helping one's children with marriage as a form of financial maintenance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 20433 )
Q: I have a group of children, praise be to Allah, and I have
helped one of the sons with his marriage. Am I obligated to help the other sons in the same way and give each daughter half of that amount, in order to avoid the sin of injustice and lack of equality? And if I am unable to do so, is the son who was helped obligated to return what he was given? His current monthly income is good. Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you.

A: It is obligatory for you, if you are able, to help your children with their marriage, both male and female. When one of them reaches the appropriate age, you should hasten to marry him off. You are not obligated to give the other children the same amount at the same time, but if another one needs to get married, you give him what he needs, and so on. This is a matter of financial maintenance based on need and necessity, not an absolute gift. Generally, the bride price is paid by the husband, so she does not need the same amount that a man needs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
