If something is gifted to a person, it is not obligatory for him to return anything to the giver

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 14379 )
Q2: It is the custom of the people of my village that when an occasion occurs, they go to the woman who is hosting the occasion with gifts and money, and it is obligatory for her to return them to them on their occasions. What is the ruling if an occasion occurs and she has nothing in her possession, and is this forbidden?
A2: It is recommended for the one who is gifted something to return the same or something better, but it is obligatory for the people of the village not to compel the poor person to return to them the like of
their gifts. Rather, what is prescribed is that the Muslim gives a gift without expecting a return for it, but rather expecting the reward from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). And if something is gifted to a person, it is not obligatory for him to return anything to the giver, and if he returns something, that is better. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
