The amount of recitation after reciting al-Fatihah in prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 6592 )
Q5: Is it permissible for the recitation in prayer to be such that the first recitation is a short surah or a long surah, given that many people recite a short surah in the first and a longer one in the second?
A5: It is a recommended practice (sunnah) to recite in the first of the first two rak'ahs, after al-Fatihah, something longer than what one recites in the second; for what was narrated by Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him)
The Prophet (ﷺ) uses to recite Al-Fatiha followed by another Sura in the first two rak`at of the prayer and used to recite only Al-Fatiha in the last two rak`at of the Zuhr prayer. Sometimes a verse or so was audible and he used to prolong the first rak`a more than the second and used to do the same in the `Asr and Fajr prayers.
Sahih al-Bukhari 776
agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and this is the wording of al-Bukhari , and if one equalizes
between them or recites in the second something slightly longer, there is no blame on him; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so on some occasions, as it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to recite in the Friday prayer Subhan and al-Ghashiyah, and al-Ghashiyah is slightly longer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
