Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 10953 )
Q: If it is subject to zakah, is it permissible to give it to my brothers? Knowing that they are orphans and in need of it, and that I have been looking after their affairs and their needs for food, drink, shelter, and so on, since my father passed away until now. Also, if they receive a school reward or something similar, they give it to me. So, is it permissible to give them zakah from my personal wealth to cover some of their needs for me? For this reason, we hope that you will answer these questions and send them to us, and we thank you in advance.
A: It is not permissible for you to give them any of the zakah. Rather, it is obligatory for you to spend on them as long as they are orphans, until they reach the age of maturity and are able to earn a living.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
