I complain about not being certain whether pre-seminal fluid has come out, so when I think about desire, I do not know if it came out of me or not. Is there a criterion for its exit? May Allah reward you.

The questioner : His Eminence saysThe Shaykh : I complain about not being certain whether pre-seminal fluid has come out, so when I think about desire, I do not know if it came out of me or not. Is there a criterion for its exit? May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Yes, we will give the brother questioner and the listener a useful criterion, and there is evidence for it from the Sunnah: If you doubt whether wind, urine, pre-seminal fluid, or anything else that invalidates the ablution has come out of you, what is the original state? The original state is purity. We do not say that you must perform ablution. The original state is purity. The evidence is that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) doubted to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that a man feels something in his belly and does not know if something came out of him or not, so he said:
He should not return (from prayer) unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell (of passing wind). لا ينصرف حتى يسمع صوتاً أو يجد ريحاً
Sahih Muslim 361
meaning: until he is certain. So the matter, praise be to Allah, is broad. But some people are overcome by obsessive doubts, so when they doubt, they go to look at the head of the penis, for example. There is no need for this, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say: If one of you doubts, let him verify and look. Rather, he said:
he should not cease praying unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell. فلا ينصرف حتى يسمع صوتاً أو يجد ريحاً
Sunan Abi Dawud 177Sahih (Al-Albani)
This means that we do not investigate. As long as the matter is doubt, we do not investigate and we do not go to look. We say: Praise be to Allah, we distract ourselves from it and overlook it, and the original state is purity.
Likewise, there are some people who doubt about the ring of the anus. They feel moisture and do not know if it is sweat or something that came out. What do we say? The original state is purity, and this is sweat. We do not say the original state is impurity? The original state is purity, and this is sweat. We attribute it to sweat, especially if you feel this on hot days and check for it on cold days, then this is a clear indication that it is sweat. The original state is purity, praise be to Allah. Yes.
