Fulfilling a Trust

Fatwa No. ( 19927 )
Q1: I have a married sister who is about 25 years old. She was involved in an accident with a water sprinkler vehicle. I visited her in the hospital, and she informed me that she owes a sum of 600 riyals to some people who have mobile shops in the market. She had tried to pay them but could not find them at their previous location before the accident happened to her. I took the money from her and told her, “It is a debt from you to me,” and I have a debt myself, and her father spends on some livestock. I have a monthly salary of 3,300 riyals. Please advise me, may Allah reward you with good, what should I do with it?
A1: It is obligatory for you to pay the mentioned amount to the poor with the intention of reward for the owners, since it is not possible to deliver it to them. It is not permissible for you to take anything from it, because you are a trustee of it.
