Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 4814 )
Q: I was born in the year 1315 AHand I have been suffering from a stomach ulcersince the year 1380 AH, and I am now about 87 years old. Every year I fast the entire month of Ramadan, and I fast six days of Shawwal, praise be to Allah. This year, with Allah’s permission, I intend to fast Ramadan, but if I am unable to do so, what is the obligatory action? I ask your eminence to issue a ruling for me, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: If the situation is as you described, regarding your advanced age, fast as much of Ramadan as you are able to. For what you are unable to fast and break, it suffices for you to feed one poor person for every day, and you owe no making up of the fasts; because of His saying, the Exalted and Majestic:[At-Taghabun 64:16] and His saying, the Exalted and Majestic: [Al-Hajj 22:78]
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
