Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 1166 )
Q: My brother is suffering from a stomach ulcer, and the doctor has restricted him to specific types of food and forbidden him from fasting for five years. He has tried fasting and found that it affects him negatively. He asks about this?
A: If the matter is as the questioner described regarding his brother, and if the doctor who forbade him from fasting is trustworthy, reliable, and an expert in his field, then it is obligatory to obey his advice by breaking the fast in Ramadan until he finds the ability and capacity to fast. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:184]
And Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Hajj 22:78] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:286] And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 7288 If he recovers from his illness, it becomes obligatory for him to make up the fasting for the months of Ramadan in which he broke his fast. We ask Allah for health and well-being for us, for him, and for all our Muslim brothers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

So whoever among you is ill or on a journey [during them] - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]
فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَAnd Allah the Exalted said:
and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty
وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍAllah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity
