Fatwa No. ( 1330 )
Q: The question includes that he was in Egypt at the end of Ramadan in the year 95 AH. And that Egypt followed the sighting of Kuwait in establishing the Festival of Breaking the Fast one day before Saudi Arabia and Qatar , and that he celebrated the festival with Egypt . He asks whether he is required to make up the day on which he broke his fast. He also asks about intravenous injections: does a fasting person break his fast if he receives one?
A: Regarding the questioner breaking his fast in Egypt because the festival was established there by the sighting of the people of Kuwait , and the questioner was in Egypt at that time, we do not see any harm in his action, and he does not have to make it up; because his ruling is the ruling of the people of the country in which the entry of the month of Shawwal was established, and he was among them. As for the issue of intravenous injections: does a fasting person break his fast by taking them? There is disagreement among the scholars: some hold that a fasting person breaks his fast by taking them because they connect to the blood vessels, while others do not hold that because they are not considered eating or drinking. The precaution—for the validity of the fast and its safety from causes of defect—is to leave them until breaking the fast, in order to avoid the disagreement of the scholars on this matter. However, if a fasting person is compelled to take them during the day, we do not see any harm in that, and his fast is valid.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
