It is reported in a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that “the fasting person has a supplication when he breaks his fast.” When does this supplication occur? Is it before breaking the fast, or during the breaking of the fast?

The questioner : The questioner asks about the hadith narrated by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), to the effect that the fasting person has a supplication when he breaks his fast. When does this supplication occur? Is it before breaking the fast, during the breaking of the fast, or after breaking the fast?

The Shaykh : The phrase “when he breaks his fast” or “at the time he breaks his fast” encompasses what happens just before breaking the fast, at the moment of breaking it, or immediately after it, connected to it. So strive, my brother the fasting person, to supplicate to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) when you break your fast, asking for whatever good you wish from this world and the Hereafter.
