Q4: What is the ruling regarding a person who embraced Islam, but whose father was a disbeliever and polytheist who worshipped idols until he died a polytheist? Is it permissible for his Muslim son to participate in washing and burying him? And if he participates in washing and burying him and in the customs of the disbelievers, what is his ruling in Islam? And what should the Muslim son do after these actions?
A4 : The original ruling for a disbeliever when he dies is that his relatives should cover him in a pit so that people are not harmed by him. He is not washed, not shrouded, and no prayer is offered over him. Whoever does otherwise or participates with the disbelievers in their customs must repent and seek forgiveness from Allah, so that perhaps Allah will accept his repentance. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
