The first question of fatwa number (9397)

Q1: If the cold is extremely severe, and the water in the container is like thick soup, and in the jug it freezes, and for example a person has a state of ritual impurity and the water affects him and causes him a fever, how should he act?
A1: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions... And after: If the matter is as mentioned, then he should perform tayammum. Allah the Exalted said:

But if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with it

وَإِنْ كُنْتُمْ مَرْضَى أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ أَوْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ مِنَ الْغَائِطِ أَوْ لامَسْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ مِنْهُ

[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]

But if he is able to heat it with fire, it is obligatory for him to do so, and it is obligatory for him to perform the full ritual bath; because of the saying of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):

So fear Allah as much as you are able

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ

[At-Taghabun 64:16]

And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
