The ruling on performing tayammum for prayer due to cold
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener from Sudan, Ja'far Sulayman Muhammad, sent a message containing a number of questions. In one of them, he asks: Is it permissible to perform tayammum during cold weather?
Answer:
If the cold sets in and you are in a place where you have no means of obtaining warm water, such as in the desert, and you have nothing with which to heat the water, and you fear harm from using the water; then you should perform tayammum, and praise be to Allah. This is just as 'Amr ibn al-'As performed tayammum during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the cold became severe and he feared for his life. He performed tayammum, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) approved of it.
So, if a person is able to obtain something to heat the water with, and has a place where he can bathe, then he should perform wudu with the heated water and bathe with it. However, if he is in a place where he fears for his life due to the danger of being in a cold place, a place exposed to the cold, and he has no means of using a bath or heated water; then Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says: [al-Baqarah:195] And He says, Exalted is He: [al-Nisa:29] And He says: [al-Taghabun:16] Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.

وَلا تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِAnd do not kill yourselves [or one another]
وَلا تَقْتُلُوا أَنفُسَكُمْSo fear Allah as much as you are able
