The Shaykh : And among the matters that must be attended to in the chapter of marriage is the mahr (bridal gift), the mahr or the mahr. To divorce her. So evil and affliction occur. A large mahr causes dislike of the woman, because not every woman a man marries does he like completely, is it not so? Good, if she did not please him completely, he can endure her, but he endures her reluctantly. And whenever he has free time, he thinks: How do I lose this great amount of money on this woman? And now he cannot divorce her because the mahr is large. Then, if he divorces her, when will he find a wife? He finds himself thinking: How do I lose this large amount of money on this woman? So lack of affection occurs. And with this, the hadith is verified, and it is true, but it serves as a witness to the truth of the hadith: Therefore, we call upon our Muslim brothers, everyone who hears this speech of ours, to strive to reduce the mahr, seeking the better and the easier, so that women do not remain unmarried, and men do not remain without marrying.
