The questioner : He says: "Shaykh, some people during the vacation go outside the Kingdom with or without a reason, whether to Arab countries that are lax in their morals or to Western countries of disbelief. When advised not to travel, he says: 'This is permissible entertainment.'"
The Shaykh : "This is?"
The questioner : "Permissible entertainment, and prices are high here, and so on. What is my duty toward him if he is a relative? And what is your advice to him and those like him, may Allah benefit you through them?"
The Shaykh : Yes, my advice to my Muslim brothers is not to exchange the blessing of Allah for disbelief. We are, praise be to Allah, in goodness, in safety, and in comfort of living. When we hear the news of fighting among people, poverty, and fear, we find that we are, praise be to Allah, in a blessing. So how do we respond to this blessing by being ungrateful for it? Traveling to lands of disbelief or to lax countries, as the questioner says, is dangerous for the creed, dangerous for morals, and dangerous for the family. Because when a person sees disbelief there, he will not be repelled by it as much as he would be if he had not seen it. And among the common proverbs is: "Frequent contact diminishes what? Sensitivity". So when he sees disbelief, hears the sounds of bells, and the trumpets of the Jews, disbelief becomes less in his heart, and this is a violation of the creed. Also, he sees there houses of prostitution, zina, and sodomy, and he sees the drinking of intoxicants, and this affects his morals. Also, the family, the young ones; the child will not forget the image he saw in his youth. This image will remain in his mind even if he grows up and time passes. So this man has wronged himself and wronged his family. Then, this leads to the development of the wealth of the disbelievers and the strengthening of their economy, and it also undermines the economy of the country, because the money that goes out from us to there means it has decreased, decreased our share, and provided money for other countries. Then, these disbelievers rejoice when they see people taking their lands as a refuge. They rejoice and suffer great losses because people intend to visit them in their lands. All these harms, a person of sound mind, let alone a believer, does not do. So I ask Allah, the Exalted and Sublime, to guide our people to what is good for us in our religion and our worldly life.
