The ruling on adhering to the sequential order of reciting the surahs of the Qur'an in prayer, and whether reciting al-Fatihah alone in the third and fourth rak'ahs is sufficient

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third and sixth questions from Fatwa No. ( 5519 )
Q3: What is the manner of sequentially reciting the surahs of the Qur'an in the rak'ahs of prayer? For example: If I recite the beginning of Surat al-Baqarah in the first rak'ah of the 'Isha' or Fajr prayer, am I permitted to recite from the short surahs, or the reverse? Or if I recite (al-Ghashiyah) in the first and (Alam Nashrah) in the second?
A3: One should recite the surahs of the Qur'an in prayer in their order in the mushaf. If one recites otherwise, such as reciting (al-Ghashiyah) in the first and (Subhan Rabbika al-A'la) in the second, it is permissible, but it is not the preferred course.
Q6: In the four-rak'ah prayer, is the imam permitted to recite only al-Fatihah in the third and fourth rak'ahs? In this case, is he obligated to recite only al-Fatihah, and is there any sin on him if he adds a surah to it? As for the ma'mum, is al-Fatihah sufficient for him in every rak'ah, or should he add something from the surahs of the Qur'an to it?

A6: Reciting al-Fatihah is a pillar of all the rak'ahs of prayer for the imam and the one praying alone, and it is obligatory for the ma'mum. Each of them recites only al-Fatihah in the last two rak'ahs of the four-rak'ah prayer and the last rak'ah of Maghrib, except in Zuhr, where it is recommended for him at times to recite in the last two rak'ahs an amount equal to al-Fatihah or approximately that in addition to al-Fatihah; because it has been authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith of Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) what indicates this. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
