The ruling on reciting al-Fatihah in every rak'ah of the prayer

The question: This is a letter received from the questioner (M. S. 'A) from Iraq -Mosul-, in which he says: I read in the book *Sifat al-Salah* by al-Albani the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam), and another wording: . The question: What is the meaning of "prayer" here? Does it refer to the single rak'ah, or does the entire prayer become invalid? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
The answer: If one leaves out al-Fatihah, the prayer is invalid, whether he is the imam or praying alone. If he did so intentionally, it is invalid. If he was in a state of forgetfulness, the other rak'ahs take its place, and he adds a rak'ah. As for if he did it intentionally, knowing the ruling of the Shari'ah in this matter, his prayer is invalid. If he was in a state of forgetfulness, his prayer is not invalid, but he performs a rak'ah. If he did not notice until after completing the rak'ah, he performs another rak'ah in place of the one in which he left out the recitation. As for the ma'mum, it is obligatory for him to recite it, according to the correct opinion. He recites it with his imam or during the imam's pauses. If he did not recite it because he was ignorant, forgetful, or following those who hold that it is not obligatory for the ma'mum, he owes nothing. Or if the ma'mum arrived and the imam was already bowing, and he was unable to recite it, or the bowing was near and he was unable to recite it, there is no blame on him. This is because it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he approved Abu Bakrah when he arrived and the imam was bowing. Abu Bakrah bowed with him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not order him to make up the rak'ah (peace and blessings be upon him). This indicates that he was excused. The majority of scholars used this as evidence that al-Fatihah is not obligatory for the ma'mum. However, the generality of the evidence indicates that it is obligatory for the ma'mum, except that he is excused if he missed standing, or forgot, or was ignorant, in which case the imam bears it for him. Yes.
