Fatwa number ( 17520 )
Q: Which is better: going to Makkah to perform 'Umrah and staying there, or engaging in guidance and direction in the markets and public places, especially in the blessed month of Ramadan when the markets and other places are crowded? And which is better: my attending the tarawih prayer or my reminding people
with preaching in the markets immediately after the 'Isha' prayer? We hope you will answer this in writing so that the benefit may be widespread.
A: If your reminding and preaching is a job duty at this time, it is obligatory for you to perform it then, and you should not leave it except to perform an obligatory act. But if it is a voluntary effort on your part, and you see that the benefit in it is great and the need for it is pressing, then it takes precedence over what you mentioned. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
