The Shaykh's comment on the presenter's statement regarding the virtue of knowledge over voluntary acts of worship.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : There is no objection in my view, but I must add a comment on this statement. This statement is the truth; it is a word of truth, meaning that the matter is as you heard from the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The virtue of knowledge is better than the virtue of worship. فضل العلم خير من فضل العبادة
Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 2:26
and the completion of the hadith is
And the best of your religion is scrupulousness. وخير دينكم الورع
. However, the standing prayer of Ramadan is prescribed solely to increase closeness to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) through the standing prayer. Therefore, we do not see it appropriate to mix the Tarawih prayer with any knowledge, teaching, or the like. Rather, the standing prayer should be pure worship. As for knowledge, it has its own time, not fixed to a specific time, but rather it should take into account the benefit of the students. This is the principle. I want to point out from this that if someone makes it a habit to teach people between every four rak'ahs, for example, in the standing prayer, and adopts this as a form of worship, then it is an innovation that contradicts the Sunnah. But if it is for an incidental matter, like what Professor Ibrahim mentioned, and it is not made a habit, then the matter is fine and permissible, and I agree with what he mentioned. However, I wanted to point out that this should not be made a habit. The habit is the standing prayer, and as you heard, what Allah willed is reciting a part of the Qur'an, and this is rarely done in many mosques, or in most mosques. So, rely on Allah (Mighty and Majestic) regarding what you have undertaken.

The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. We continue to pose questions.
