The third question of Fatwa No. ( 18146 )
Q3: Most of the time, I am with my friends, and we discuss religious matters until the dispute between us becomes intense. What is the ruling on that? I ask His Eminence the Shaykh (may Allah preserve him) to advise us.
A3: What is required in discussion and debate regarding scientific issues is seeking the truth with its evidence, and not being stubborn about an opinion. So, if the truth is with someone, it is obligatory to follow it, and if the truth is not with him, it is obligatory to abandon it, while observing debate in the best manner, not with violence and harshness. Allah the Exalted has commanded the believers to refer disputes to the Book of Allah the Exalted and to the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in His saying:[An-Nisa 4:59] and His saying: [Al-'Ankabut 29:46]
the verse, and His saying:[An-Nahl 16:125] and success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
