The Difference Between Jadal, Munakahah, and Mura'ah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
How do we distinguish between jadal and munakahah, and when does munakahah cease to be a discussion and become jadal?
Jadal is munakahah, or rather, munakahah is the broader term. And jadal is: A person engages in jadal in order to defeat his opponent. And munakahah is: He asks questions and seeks to understand the meaning, knowledge, and the like. However, if jadal takes the form of mura'ah, that is what is forbidden. If the intention behind jadal is to win for oneself, whether by right or by wrong, then it is not permissible. But if jadal leads to the truth and refutes falsehood, then it is a truth that is commanded.
So we now have mura'ah, jadal, and munakahah.

Mura'ah: To engage in jadal so that his own opinion prevails.

Jadal: To engage in jadal so that the truth prevails.

Munakahah: One may discuss with his teacher in order to clarify the knowledge and the aspect of the ruling for him. This is also permissible.
And with this, this session ends because the call to prayer has been made. We ask Allah to benefit us with what He has taught us. If Allah wills, we will meet again after Ramadan and the fasting of the six days, if Allah wills.
