The second question of Fatwa No. ( 1545 )
Q2: Its text reads: We would like to be provided with further statements regarding the fasting and prayer of a woman during menstruation. We have witnessed evidence pointing to this matter, and we seek the correct ruling.
A2: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions... And after:
When a woman menstruates, she leaves off the prayer and fasting. When she becomes pure, she makes up the days of Ramadan she did not fast, but she does not make up the prayers she left off. This is based on what al-Bukhari and others narrated regarding the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) explanation of the deficiency in a woman’s religion, in his (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: , and what al-Bukhari and Muslim and others narrated from Mu'adhah that she asked 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), saying: . This is from the mercy of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for the woman and His gentleness toward her; because the prayer is repeated five times every day and night, and menstruation is repeated every month, generally, Allah removed from her the obligation of prayer and making it up, due to the great hardship involved in making it up. As for fasting, since it is not repeated except once a year, Allah removed from her the fasting during menstruation, out of mercy for her, and commanded her to make it up afterwards, to realize the legal interest in that.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

Is it not the case that one of you, when she menstruates, does not fast and does not pray?
أليست إحداكن إذا حاضت لا تصوم ولا تصليWhy does the menstruating woman make up the fast but not the prayer? 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Are you a Kharijah? She said: I am not a Kharijah, but I am asking. She said: We used to menstruate during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and we were commanded to make up the fast but not commanded to make up the prayer.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
