Inability to memorize the Qur'an

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The seventh question of Fatwa No. ( 7731 ):
Q7: What is the ruling on one who reads the Noble Qur'an frequently but cannot memorize it due to a weak memory, and what is the ruling on one who memorized the Qur'an and then forgot it? For example, if one memorizes it for an exam, is there any sin in that?
A7: One who reads the Qur'an frequently but does not memorize it due to a weak memory is rewarded for his recitation and excused for not memorizing it; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
, and one who memorizes the Qur'an—for an exam, for example—and then forgets it has done wrong and has missed much good. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
