Allah’s Guiding the Servant to Faith
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 8070 ):
Q: Does Allah the Exalted guide the servant to faith initially, or does the servant choose faith and Allah guides him and supports him? Does the Creator grant the servant disbelief initially before he chooses it, or does the servant choose disbelief and then Allah abandons him? Did Allah know, by His eternal prior knowledge, that some of His servants would choose guidance with their full will, consent, and choice, so He wrote them among the people of happiness before He created them, and that some of His servants would choose misguidance with their full will, consent, and choice, so He wrote them among the people of misguidance? Or is the matter a decree? This is with the acknowledgment that Allah the Exalted is Just, Wise, and All-Knowing, doing what He wills.
A: Allah the Exalted sent the messengers and revealed to them the books, bringing good news
and warning all nations, so that people would have no excuse against Allah after the messengers. He guided whom He willed of His servants to faith, out of His grace and mercy, and He abandoned whom He willed of them, not guiding them to faith, out of His wisdom and justice. As He the Exalted said:
And Allah invites to the Home of Peace and guides whom He wills to a straight path
وَاللَّهُ يَدْعُو إِلَى دَارِ السَّلامِ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ
