Q7: A sick man went to a jurist, who wrote Qur'an on a piece of paper, nothing else. Then he said: When you return home, drive a nail into each word of these written words from the Qur'an, for example:[Al-Baqarah 2:2] , (Alif) he reads the words to him, then he drives a nail, then (Lam) likewise, then (Mim) likewise... until the end of this. Then this paper is hidden for ten or fifteen days. Is this considered shirk (associating partners with Allah)? Are these tamimah (amulets)? Is this permissible?
A7: This action is not permissible, because it is among the amulets about which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited, due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): , and in another narration: . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
